Review Policy

How I Write Reviews:

I am always honest in my reviews. Most of the books I read I purchased with my own money and are books I expect to enjoy. Some of the books are from subscription services and I know little about them before picking them up. I will always disclose in the beginning of a post if the book was sent to me by a publisher or author for review. I do not guarantee positive reviews for books I receive for the purpose of reviewing, however I will always try to give specific reasons for why I did not like the book.

I will discuss plot points that I like/dislike, character development, writing style, and whether or not I would recommend the book to others. For books that do not have a plot, such as non-fiction or poetry, I will discuss writing style, accessibility, and whether or not I would recommend the book to others.

My ratings are as follows:

0/5: Did not finish, do not recommend
1/5: I was able to finish the story, but I have many issues with the book and didn’t enjoy reading it. The issues may be related to the overall plot, the plot development, specific plot points, lack of editing, lack of character development, etc.
2/5: I thought the book was okay, but it still had issues that took me out of the story. There is potential for a better book within this book, which I will address in my review.
3/5: I neither hated nor loved this book. It might be very well written but not to my tastes, or I liked the world building but not the characters, etc.
4/5: I really liked this book! It was enjoyable and any issues I might have with it are minimal. The plot, characters, and writing were all well done, and I would definitely recommend this book to others.
5/5: I loved this book! It’s a new favorite, one I’d possibly read again. The plot was well written, characters were fully developed, and it left a lasting impression on me. I will recommend it to everyone.
